Among the bourbon whiskies there is probably hardly one that is so soft and at the same time so spicy as the Makers Mark Whisky. Manufacturer is the North American distillery Maker’s Mark, which is located in Loretto, Kentucky. The original recipe was discovered in 1953 by Bill Samuels Senior and whisky connoisseur Pappy van Winkle. The whiskey is made from 70% corn and 30% barley and wheat. The use of red winter wheat instead of rye as a seasoning gives the whisky its mild aroma.
Another special feature of the production process is that the grain is not ground, but crushed, which retains the natural grain flavor. The grain is then boiled for about eight hours and then placed in cypress wood fermenters for fermentation for up to 78 hours. After a double distillation, the whisky matures for four to seven years in white oak barrels.
